Why Cutting Boards?

Because food brings people together - that’s why.

We started making cutting boards out of our love for food - it’s at the heart of where friends and family come together to talk and laugh - the epicenter of where these special moments happen.

At Swift River Wood Shop, we build cutting boards by hand, one by one, at our small shop in rural Western Massachusetts. The next time you’re chopping ingredients for a family meal or serving appetizers to your friends, we would be honored if it was with one of our boards.

About Our Boards:

All of our boards are made using locally sourced hardwoods, predominantly maple, walnut and cherry. We do like to use some imported wood such as purple heart from time to time, but most of our lumber grows right in our own back yard, figuratively speaking.

Each board, upon it’s completion is given a soak overnight in a specially formulated mix of mineral oil and beeswax that will penetrate deep into the board, both protecting the wood and bringing out its natural beauty. After buffing on one final coat of food safe wax, our boards are ready to ship!

Care and use:

Our boards are designed and built to withstand many years of use and enjoyment. To get the most out of your board, here are a few useful tips:

Do NOT put your cutting boards in the dishwasher. High heat and moisture will damage your board. A hand washing with light soap and warm water is all you need.

When your board starts to look a little dry, you can simply apply any one of the many cutting board oils available on the market according to the manufacturer’s directions.

If you use your board daily and it starts to look scuffed, show excessive knife marks, wear and tear etc., you can give us a call or email, and we will be happy to refurbish it for you. If you are handy you can use a random orbital sander, and sand your board down to 220 grit. A quick soak in cutting board oil, and your board will look brand new! Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Swift River Wood Shop started out as an idea - a passion for craftsmanship and lust to create something better.

Each piece, made by hand - that’s our promise.
